The hunch back posture and therapy with a posture-correction brace
Kyphosis can occur at any age. It’s a spinal disorder that causes excessive outward curve of the spine resulting in an abnormal rounding of the upper back portion. The condition is sometimes known as roundback or in a severe curve as “hunchback”. This condition makes you look like you’re hunching or slouching over.
As you may notice if you look at someone’s spine or back, they have a natural curve. For a healthy spine, a normal & natural curve should be at a precise angle from 20-45 degrees. Those who have kyphosis, however, their abnormal curvature of spine sits at an angle of over 50 degrees which needs medical intervention. You need to visit your doctor who may ask you to do several tests followed by exercises to see if your balance and range of motion are affected. In addition, they can decipher from a postural problem or a structural problem by having you lie down on your back & analyzing your curve. After you have been diagnosed with kyphosis, it is likely your doctor will inform you of the type of your condition.
While kyphosis looks similar in most individuals on the outside, there are different forms or types that are the underlying factors. The types are classified into two general categories, postural and structural. Postural is caused by slouching or poor posture in your back whereas structural is caused by birth defects or from another spinal problem. Further, your doctor might also suggest using a back brace for postural correction and increasing core muscular strength. A new study (Article No. 99E22) on osteoporosis reveals that the SpinomedII® back brace significantly improves posture correction and core muscular strength.
The brace works as back support working on backpack principle triggering biofeedback mechanism significantly reducing pain and enhancing good posture. The brace is also mouldable at the cold conditions or at room temperature as per the shape of your spine.
